The purpose of writing is to discuss the answers to questions that are posed. Grant-Davie states that his purpose in his writing was to review the definitions of the terms discussed. This allows for the interpretation that writing can also be used for revision. My thoughts concerning purpose has not changed since reading Grant-Davie’s article. I already understood purpose in regards to writing. The purpose of an article relates to genre, audience, and rhetorical situation because it controls the way genre, audience, and rhetorical situation is approached.
From Greene’s article, I will use the concept of identifying an issue amongst two conflicting ideas. The reason that point stuck out to me is because there’s a lot of conflicting views concerning religion. My topic concerns teenage decision making in relation to the discourse community of Christianity. I believe it will be really easy to interview teen Christians because I know a lot of teen Christians. I will concoct a few informed questions and ask them to that particular discourse community at UCBA. Then, I will write down their answers. My limitations are the location and the questions. There are only so many questions I can ask. My use is simply the information collected.
The student’s purpose was to identify different types of fan fiction. She used each individual as a case study. That way, she could go in depth about their individuals styles of fan fiction. She also takes note on their personal backgrounds. These case studies were used as her primary source. I personally feel that it was an informative and accurate means of receiving primary information. My concern with Major Assignment 2 is my timeliness. I want to have it submitted on time and also not thrown together. This is going to call for early action.
