Prompt 5: Reflection

When I googled reflection on the internet, I used the definition given by the Oxford dictionary. The definition Oxford gave was serious thought or consideration. It wasn’t the only definition, but the other definition didn’t apply. It referred to the throwing back of light, heat, or sound. The chosen definition is the most similar to Yancey’s definition.

Yancey states that reflection is needed for writing. He explains that when writing, we must pause and review what has been written. This is needed to make sure that everything flows and is related. Reflection is also needed to compose writing, which Yancey also expressed. Yancey uses quotes from other people to help his readers better understand reflection. This was also done to support the statements he was making, by showing that other authors agree.

Throughout this semester, we have used reflection to write about and discuss what we have read. We reflected on the meaning of genre twice on our blogs. When we had class, after we had a reading assignment we would always reflect on what we read and how it relates to a specific topic.
